At approximately 3am on Monday, June 23rd, the San
Rafael Yacht Club Clubhouse suffered a devastating fire. The fire
destroyed the outside cooler, a portion of the deck, greatly damaged the bar
and lounge area. Through the dedicated efforts of the San Rafael Fire
Department, the fire was quickly contained sparing the remainder of the
clubhouse. Club members immediately arrived and ensured the club was
secure and the fire did not return.
The club's board was able to meet later in the week in the undamaged portion
of the clubhouse. Currently the club is working through the insurance
claim process and fully intends to rebuild. Unfortunately, cruise-ins
have been cancelled indefinitely and the club will operate minimal
activities at the clubhouse until construction is complete.
San Rafael Yacht Club, founded in 1938, is
a member of Pacific Inter-Club Yacht
Association, a family of Yacht Clubs first organized in 1896. Our
4,000 square foot clubhouse is located at the West end of San Rafael
Canal in a protected harbor offering visiting boaters over 300 feet of
dock space. The warm and friendly cocktail lounge overlooks the harbor
and is adjacent to our large deck, dining and dancing areas that
accommodate well over 150 people. The purpose of
San Rafael Yacht Club is to participate in the various activities
sponsored by yachting and boating organizations of the Bay Area, to
promote proper and safe boating, and to provide a comfortable atmosphere
of camaraderie among it's members.
We welcome you by boat or car.
